'Mara' is a Scottish Gaelic word meaning 'of the sea'
Ma- Mother
’Marama’- in Te Reo Māori means moon, light.

  • Creating a boutique meal plan for your postpartum, working with a Nutritionist that can specialise in meeting your needs. Also staying curious about what your Ancestral birth foods are for post partum. A recipe e- book will be included. As well as setting up meal trains for friends and family and a once a week bundle so you can have a day off. Get excited about each meal and learn to receive the deliciousness.

  • Specialising in Mayan Abdominal Massage. A technique learned in Guatemala through Mayan Midwives. Maya Abdominal Therapy is an external, non-invasive abdominal massage for all women. It can help to reposition the uterus and internal organs that may have shifted, therefore increasing blood flow, lymph and nerve connections. It can help to circulate the chi, bringing energy back to this vital area of the body, post birth. The massage will also relieve tension in other parts of the body such as neck, shoulders and lower back

  • Postpartum belly binding is the technique of firmly wrapping fabric around your abdomen to support the spine and organs during your recovery from childbirth. Historically, postpartum belly wraps were used to promote healing and the health of the mother's body. We will be using traditional Guatemalan faja belts, weaved by a traditional Mayan Midwife- Nanny Dominga. Wraps are a traditional practice that has been used through many cultures for thousands of years.

  • Steaming is a method of introducing herbs via steam to the perineum, vagina, cervix, and uterus. Gentle yet powerful herbs are used to promote circulation and work to cleanse, detox, heal, and strengthen the female reproductive system. Postpartum steams can reduce anxiety, improve mood and encourage relaxation.

  • A sitz bath is a warm, shallow bath people sit in to cleanse the perineum. A warm sitz bath works by bringing blood flow to the area to relax the muscles, promote wound healing and ease cramps. Herbal blends are used including rose, camomile and calendula.

  • Somatic therapy is a movement practise which supports emotional release and regulation as well as creative expression. In the postpartum phase, a Mother’s body has gone through a lot of change, starting to work with tools such as dance, yoga and breath work supports integration and re- connection mind, body and soul.

  • Assisting the family to feel supported and nourished. Offering activities such as creative arts exercises and nature connection tools. Time spent with other children in the family to support the Mothers relaxation.

“A woman’s birth experience is not something that just happens to her and then it’s over. A woman’s birth experience is about who she is, it’s about who she becomes, it define her, it unmakes her, and it re-makes her, it unravels her, and it puts her together again”.

Hannah Dahlen, Reclaiming Childbirth as a rights of passage.
